(Mis)alignment

Think about the last time you suddenly wondered if your vehicle needed an alignment.

You know the feeling: recognizing the pull in one direction, realizing you have to keep correcting in order to stay on your current path.

Are we still talking about the car?:)  What about:

  • That entrepreneurial idea that won’t go away…
  • That creative project that’s still on the shelf…
  • That career change you’ve been longing for…
  • That voice or new identity you can’t quiet...
  • That tribe you can’t seem to leave…

A lack of alignment might be an indicator of deeper, underlying concerns. Here are a few indicators:

  • Have you noticed that you’re should’ing all over yourself? “I should be content...I should be happy...I should be grateful…”
  • Are you taking all the blame? For example, rather than wondering what your discontent might be telling you, you’re assuming the problem is you. “What’s wrong with me?”
  • Are you nursing a zombie? By that I mean: what is it that wants to end yet you can’t let it go?

Pay attention to that awareness of misalignment. If you slowed down and let go of the steering wheel, where might you end up? If you gave the microphone to that voice of discontent, what might it say? What action might it beg you to take? Who even now might be standing in the wings, eagerly waiting (hoping!) for you to take center stage and step into this new beginning?
