Happy and Scared

A few weeks ago my youngest daughter  (5 yo) came bounding up to me with exciting news:  her first loose tooth! She then went on to tell me that she was a little bit happy, and a little bit scared. This provided an excellent learning moment for us both, and it was especially timely as we had just welcomed a new puppy to our home (talk about scared).

I told my daughter that the night I drove her mommy to the hospital for birth we were a little bit happy, and a little bit scared. And that every time I play a gig with my band, I'm a little bit happy, and a little bit scared. And when I pushed my first novel out into the world, I was a little bit happy, and a little bit scared.

And when we brought Captain home, our new basenji puppy, we were a little bit happy, and a little bit scared. [He's so great, though!]

I realized through all of these examples, that if I'm not finding myself at this curious intersection with some regularity, then I'm probably not growing.

What is that for you?
When were you a little bit happy, and a little bit scared?
What are you currently holding back on?
What internal shift would need to occur to take the first step?
